Psychotherapy

Therapy for Individuals and Families
I offer confidential psychotherapy to individuals and families. I welcome people of all backgrounds into my office, and enjoy working with a diverse clientele. I work with adolescents, young adults, middle-aged, and the mature; the LGBTQ community; socioeconomic levels; and I am competent in working with people of different cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
Benefits of Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is a valuable undertaking. It has the capability to positively transform your mood, lift your depression, decrease your anxiety, and facilitate feelings of empowerment to make decisions that will benefit you. Over time, you can also expect to notice a positive change in your relationships and behaviors.Therapy can help you to improve your acceptance of yourself while helping you to identify and build on the strengths and abilities you already possess. I will work to help you have improved insight into what you desire in your life and what behaviors create obstacles so that new possibilities can be created and sustained. Many of my patients have been able to end the power that their self-defeating behaviors and self-critical feelings have had over them and now are more able to pursue their goals and desires. You can make exceptional changes in your lives and relationships as a result of therapy, largely by investing in an exploration of current issues and obstacles. This exploration can be distressing at times, and it takes courage and commitment on your part. You may experience feelings of vulnerability, shame, anger, and sadness as part of the process of change and transformation. However, you will not be alone or without help in the exploration, as I will be supporting, listening, and engaging with you to assist you in understanding and make sense of your experiences.
Appointments
I see individuals for 45-minute sessions, typically from once to two times weekly. We will decide on the frequency of your sessions during our first few meetings and can reassess during the course of our work together. Finding a pace that is manageable for you is important, and that pace may vary during different phases of our work together.
Length of Treatment
The length of psychotherapy varies depending on the nature of your concerns, type of therapy service I provide, and the goals we set for our work together. Sometimes clients see me for a few months for help with distressing symptoms or to work on a particular situation they are facing. Often my work with patients deepens with time as we explore and work to change long-standing patterns of behavior and relationships.  However, many of my clients find resolution within three to six months.
